Eczema is a broad term used for many skin conditions as well as skin irritations known as dermatitis. While it is most commonly found in babies it can occur in people of all ages. The truly good news is that it you have a baby that is effected by eczema it is very likely that they will be unaffected by the condition by the time that they are around three years of age. On the other hand there are people that will be dealing with eczema their entire lives.
It is common for people who are affected by this skin condition to have some form of family history. Whether it is this in particular or some kind of allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever, many times it points back to your family. This is why it is imperative you know and understand your family history.

Now what is the origin of this irritating skin condition? Unfortunately doctors are not fully sure as to what the cause of this condition happens to be. One thing that many doctors do agree on however is that an impaired immune system could very well be at the center of the condition.
Now while there are all kinds of different types of eczema there are also many things that can trigger the condition. For instance substances that can cause an allergic reaction like detergents and different kinds of hand soap can cause outbreaks of eczema. Basically if it has the potential to cause an allergic reaction there is a chance that it can cause eczema. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity can also play a factor.
It is important you understand all of the symptoms that arise such as dry skin that is red and itches. While the overall appearance will vary from person to person, it does not hurt to get any unusual skin patterns checked out. The sooner you identify the problem, the quicker you can begin to treat your eczema. After all, you do not deserve to be suffering from the constant itching and scratching throughout your typical day.
