Snoring Chin Strap – Their Uses for Snoring and Sleep Apnea Conditions
February 24, 2010
Are you a mouth breather? Are you known to be a snorer? These common issues are usually linked and your partner will probably spend large periods of night time going nuts listening to the snoring. Both snorers and partners can suffer a lot due to lack of sleep. I used a ’snoring chin strap’ to cure my snoring.
Is there a Solution?
There are a choice of devices that may be able to help with snoring problems. An Anti Snoring Device is worn in the mouth to keep the airway clear, and prevent the vibrating of soft tissues which causes snoring. Another helpful gadget, which is far less invasive but may well alleviate your snoring is the Snoring Chin Strap. This is a very simple device that is worn over the head, with a cradle that goes under the jaw and holds the mouth closed during the night. Now, if you have a blocked nose or structural problem, you need to get that fixed, and a sleep apnea mouthpiece might serve you better. But for many, mouth breathing has become a habit, and the chin strap for snoring can immediately resolve this problem by making sure you breath through your nose at nighttime.
Okay, the snoring chin strap appears a little unusual when worn, but the benefits greatly outweigh that minor disadvantage. You getting a good nights sleep without being continuously kicked is a genuine benefit. Your partner will appreciate it too.
Using snoring chin straps can in fact offer extra benefits that just a snoring treatment. It is possible that you may have Sleep Apnea which is a more serious condition in which ‘episodes’ of breath holding take place whilst asleep, the sleeper commonly stops breathing for 10 seconds or more. This condition can cause some more severe health problems, and if you are worried about it, you really should make contact with your health care provider and consider having a sleep investigation to confirm the condition. The upside is that in some cases, it can be a learned condition which may be able to be sorted out. There are also sleep apnea mouthpiece devices which can help.
The brilliant benefit of chin straps for snoring is that they teach you (although you are asleep) to breath through your nose. Mouth breathers tend to get a narrowing of the airway, which will cause the soft mouth and throat tissues to vibrate, creating a snore. The snoring chin strap will keep the mouth closed and the jaw in a position that assists in keeping that airway open.
If you wear the ’stop snoring chin strap’ for a while, consider trying the odd night without it to see if you have automatically learnt to breath through your nose at night. A partner will be able to advise you. If not, keep wearing it and the time will come when it is no longer needed. I found it only took me a few weeks before I was converted from a mouth breather to a nose breather, and more significantly, from a snorer to a non-snorer.
